The Island: Castaway throws you in the middle of an unknown and mysterious island.
The Island: Castaway begins with an ocean liner crashing in a storm in places unknown. Tom Allison, one of the survivors, wakes up on a beach of a tropical island where you step in his role. After you reunite with the rest of the castaways, mysterious things happen. You and your crew find strange inscriptions appearing and an abandoned village. It isn't long before everyone realizes the shipwrecked passengers aren't alone on the island.
You need to explore the huge island with forests, swamps and dark caves. However, you can't visit all of the island at once. Each spot will open to you as you progress in the game.
The interface and controls are user-friendly thanks to the map that makes it easy to navigate the island and see where everyone is. The game also has a handy list for tracking your many active tasks and who needs what. You have many tasks and quests to do where other characters ask to you to find food and spices, catch crabs and snakes, hunt boars, cook meals or gather wood to make a fire.
Since you cover a lot of ground, you need watch your hero's energy level and ensure he gets plenty of fuel. Remember to have food in your sack, or else Tom can black out only to wake up in the camp having lost some items from his inventory.
For the cooking part of the game, you'll unlock many delicious recipes ranging from soups and salads to grilled crabs and fruit cocktails. Eventually, you'll learn how to cook a special potion so you can complete several tasks or else face the ultimate side effect: death.
