Pros: Interesting story. Challenging mini games. Beautiful graphics and animation.
Cons: Repetitive.
Time travel offers infinite possibilities for inspiration. Many worthy games resort to the mysterious phenomenon of time wandering. Recall the much-discussed Mortimer Beckett series, amusing Mushroom Age, sinister Time Machine: Trapped in Time and others. If you are a devotee of such games, you’ll remember the peculiar Clumsy family.
In the original The Clumsys game, Albert Clumsy, a talented and extraordinary scientist and a grandpa, had an interesting collection of discoveries in his old barn. And the most intriguing, of course, was the time machine. The youngest Clumsy's playful friends couldn't help but be very curious about the device. The story turned into an original way to play hide-and-seek. The children disappeared to 20 different time epochs. Thanks to Helen Clumsy, they came back home safe and sound.
In The Clumsys 2: The Butterfly Effect, it’s Albert Clumsy who disturbs the peaceful family life. After one of his voyages to the past, the restless grandpa wanted to bring home a dead prehistoric butterfly. Have you ever heard of "butterfly effect"? Well, that's what hits The Clumsys. A dead butterfly caused serious changes to various events. And Helen Clumsy returns to the time machine once again to set everything right. You help the plucky woman to repair the imbalance of events.
The Clumsys 2 has you traveling to various time epochs. Each of them is a key period of the technological evolution, the time when important discoveries occurred. You will visit the cabinet of Louis Le Prince in England (the creation of the movie projector), the study of Thomas A. Edison (the invention of the light bulb), Samuel Morse’s home where he invented the telegraph and more. There is no need to create the devices while visiting scientists. Instead, collect the scattered pieces from the locations and reassemble them later.
As well as the first installment, The Clumsys 2 sticks to the hidden object game mechanics with a slight shade of puzzles. This time the developers decided to provide two inventory panels: the first shows the shapes of the items to find and the second reflects the details of discovered devices that you need to rebuild. The found object from the first panel automatically goes to the second. When you find everything, look for the places where to put the finds.
Besides t hese peculiar puzzles, The Clumsys 2: The Butterfly Effect features some interesting mini-games. For example, you’ll put the frames back in correct order to reproduce the first film. But if don’t like the puzzle, you can skip it. Moreover, like in the original The Clumsys, the sequel has amazing mini-games where you reconstruct various gadgets (probably Albert Clumsy’s inventions).
And there are the “improper items”! Each time everything is done in a location, you must find modern items that landed in the past. Just find and click them to make disappear from the scene.
If you’ve played The Clumsys, recall its specific hint system with two different tips. Well, like it or not, the hint system The Butterfly Effect has nothing in common with its predecessor. It offers unordinary rechargeable hints. Honestly, the items are easy to find and seasoned gamers will prefer to find them without using hints.
The game isn't too easy. Far from it! Items are easy to find means the artists did a great job and the hidden objects are very similar to the original ones. Besides, The Clumsys 2 comes with new and nice animation. All this comes with voiced dialogues and Albert Clumsy's funny accent will make you smile. As for music, the tunes are pleasant. But it would be better if they represent the visited epochs.
The Clumsys 2: The Butterfly Effect is a good sequel to the popular hidden object game which adds a couple of innovations.
