Pros: Original theme. Nice 3D graphics. Lots of innovation. Availability of mini-games. Random events or crises.
Cons: Staff members move too slow. It takes too long to get speed upgrades. Clicks fail to take.
If you enjoyed Beach Party Craze or Fashion Craze, you need to party down with Party Down! The time management game comes with lots of fresh twists to the popular and aging genre. The game has a catchy plot based on the popular TV show series of the same name. If you’ve seen the show, you know what Party Down is going to be about: Hollywood, showbiz, celebs, parties...
The story begins in a cozy apartment with you acting as one of the two characters (Shannon or Dave). The TV is on and here comes an ad, “Do you want to party with the elite of Hollywood? Are you looking to break into the industry? Come join us at Party Down where work is a party every day.” Should you take a chance? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
While the story of Party Down is fresh in the time management genre, the game play mixes old traditions and innovative features. The game successfully combines common click management with drag and drop mechanics. You not only control your character with click and point actions, but also drag and drop Hollywood stars all around the party house. You need to watch the bubbles of the arriving celebs and fulfill their desires by dragging and dropping them to the dance floor, a comfortable couch or a conversation mat.
The game is divided into stages, or parties. The first party you work is Angelina’s birthday, which is consists of several levels or party hours. When a celebrity arrives, you need to look at the bubble above his or her head to see what he or she wants to do. It could be dance, talk or eat.
Hungry ones want to sit down, and then let you know if they want food or a drink. Rush to the bar or kitchen for the requested item and deliver the dish to the star. Remember to remove the dirty plates otherwise you won’t be able to serve the customer. Those who come to chatter, discuss latest news, fashion, economics and filmmaking. Again, watch the conversation to see what they want to talk about and match people with the same interests on the conversation mat. After savoring the food and exchanging fresh gossip, the celebs make way to the dance floor.
One of the distinctive features of Party Down is the ability to boost the popularity of your staff and any member in particular. Just help them mingle with Hollywood celebs so that they can earn stars and upgrade their talking or other skills. This is probably the only upgrades available in the game.
Don’t forget about the clock and the tip meter. Each level of Party Down sets a special task for you that you must reach before time runs out. There are three level goals: bronze, silver and gold. Reach any one of these to move forward.
Party Down chock full of mini-games. It helps to relax after you’ve walked through half a dozen levels of clicking like crazy. Mini-games prevents from feeling like the game has turned repetitious or dull. When a party is over, you have to clean up all the trash by playing a hidden object mini-game. Or you can save the party and fix electric fuse in a pipe game. The main levels also have random events or crises. You’ll have to wake up the staff members if they suddenly fall asleep in full swing of work or break up arguments.
Though you can upgrade your staff members' speed, it takes too long. Before that, they move too slow, which hampers the service. The game won't recognize some clicks, so you have to position your mouse precisely to pick up the celebs.
Party Down has notable 3D graphics and jolly music. Some characters look like their Hollywood prototypes, while others don't. Every celeb has his or her special dance and it’s great fun to watch them boogie on the dance floor.
This has to be one of the first, if not the first, time management game with Hollywood stars and glamorous parties. The original set of mini-games and having staff talk to game characters are innovative. Despite it’s the minor drawbacks in Party Down, forget about 'em and party down!
Not very original. In a word it's like any other time management game. The artwork and animation are well done, funny characters and they really look like Hollywood stars. But in general all is the same.
Pros: Great Time Management game, fabulous graphics, cool stars to serve, fantastic gameplay, fun fun fun!!
Cons: NONE
