Pros: Enjoyable adventure. Challenging and original puzzles. Great voice acting.
Cons: Some obscure solutions. Cut-scenes are long and can’t be skipped.
Pahelika: Secret Legends is a hidden object game with lots of puzzles. Its game play looks more like a quest or adventure and resembles popular games like Azada or the Dream Chronicles series.
Pahelika: Secret Legends puts you in the role of a researcher whose name never comes up. You find a strange contraption with empty slots in a storeroom. As soon as you fix it, you learn that the odd gadget is associated with Pahelika, a magic book which once helped dethrone an evil warrior king. Six challenges safeguard Pahelika and the gadget serves as a portal to these challenges.
The old tale about the magic book intrigues you compelling to explore fantastic realms and solve all the puzzles to see if Pahelika really exists.
In Pahelika: Secret Legends, you travel through six different realms, each with unique quests and distinctive settings. Underground caverns, ice rooms, tropical island, fairy garden or ancient machinery room. Every location challenges with its enjoyable tasks.
Pahelika: Secret Legends does not have lists of items like most hidden object games do. You comb the place searching for interactive or inventory items and solve quests that require logical thinking. In finding an item, think about where you can use it, or figure out what you need to activate, open or solve.
Sometimes you need to use items together in the inventory to create a new inventory object. For example, combine a stick, fishing line and a magnet to build a fishing rod. You can use some items more than once.
While that sounds logical, not all games provide a clear solution. Some solutions are vague that you can't help but solve the quest through trial and error. It's better to find clues that guide you through the puzzles. For example, it isn't obvious how to place items in the study, what to do with the levers to activate a machine or how to handle the sequence of ringing the bells.
Unlike Dream Chronicles, Pahelika: Secret Legends gives you hints by highlighting interactive areas with a sparkling cloud similar to Azada. Some scenes come with scrolls containing instructions and tips like in Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child. It looks like Pahelika: Secret Legends tries to emanate the best features from similar games.
The six puzzles are challenging enough to keep you interested without being too hard. Favorites include jigsaw puzzles, quizzes and numbers where you find code in the scene and then use it to solve a puzzle. You'll also play memory, sliding blocks and sequence mini-games. The latter requires guessing the right sequence of pictures. Only two are fixed while you need to move the rest in the right places.
Thegraphics look deceptively dark and gloomy in the beginning. As you progress in discovering new locations, the lovely scenes brighten with sandy beaches and singing tropical birds or a snow white winter with huge icicles. Some scenes have a little animation going on in the background. However, traveling between the challenges displays the same cut scene and phrase. To make matters worse, you can't skip it.
The enchanting music of Pahelika: Secret Legends creates an atmosphere of magic and mystery. The impressive voice acting includes the voice of an aged man who adds mystery compelling you to believe in this old tale. Pahelika: Secret Legends takes you on an enjoyable adventure into the fairy realms providing you with tons of delightful emotions.
