National Geographic Games Herods Lost Tomb Home Page

Pros: Impressive artwork. Stunning historical and educational videos.

Cons: Not original., Objects reappear. Few locations. Common mini-games and tools.

Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb gets its inspiration from the National Geographic TV special. You take on the role of one of the two National Geographic Society members going on an archeological adventure to the sacred land of Jerusalem, Herodium and Masada in search of Herod’s lost tomb.

Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb GameThis sounds intriguing, at first. You expect an impressive project that will take you somewhere to entertain and overload you with tons of challenging tasks. Don’t hope for much as the game looks unpolished and contains many flaws.

National Geographic Games Herod’s Lost Tomb is a hidden object game that looks like many other hidden object games. It has 20 game chapters with three or nine archeological sites. But,  there is only a total of 16 sites, so revisiting the same location is inevitable. That's disappointing. The game stand stand to introduce more colorful places for investigating.

Every location holds nine hidden items that you must find to continue your journey to another site. As usual, a list tells you what items that you need find. Vases, pots, butterflies, safety pins, corks and pinecones often appear in the list. In addition to revisiting the same locations too often, you find the same objects in the same places. What for?

This notwithstanding, Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb is not an easy game especially when playing timed mode. The game provides a relaxed mode option that has no penalties. Some items merge too well into the background that you can barely make them out. Others show up OK in front of you. Some appear too small to stand out against ornate backgrounds. But the most vexing is when the game requires you to find two vases in a location that has three or four. Which ones are correct? Try and you’ll see.

Thankfully, you can use help here. Click an item in your list to see its silhouette. Hints are available for when you get stuck. Click an old coin at the left-hand bottom of the screen to reveal the position of a desired object. However, select it from the list before clicking the coin.

Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb GameSpecial items hide in random locations that appear as gold letters in the checklist. You need these artifacts for the final scene and you can't use hints to find them. Only special tools like an archeological brush or a flashlight help reveal these objects.

Among other tools are a sonar scanner, night goggles, metal detector and all of them are almost the same (i.e. help you find an item hidden somewhere inside or under something). Moreover, you cannot pick the one you want to use. Instead, you have to use the one the game provides.

Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb has five mini-games that are easy to beat. These contain common puzzles like jigsaw, rotating, sliding or pipe mini-games.

The strong point of Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb is its bright and colorful graphics that emphasize the sandy shades at a dig site or a rich velvet if it’s an ancient Roman chamber. Besides, the game involves stunning educational and historical videos that add some peculiarity.

Though, the gameplay is trivial, and despite its shortcomings, Nat Geo Games Herod’s Lost Tomb may turn to be an enjoyable experience especially for those who love history.

If you're the beginner, National Geographic Games Herods Lost Tomb is the game for you. It's easy, refilled hints system, plus the game shows silhouettes of the items you have to find. You have much time in each level, but for me it's TOO easy. Big grin

It seems that people who make games don't go deep into it. The items to find are selected incongruous. For example, in this game we deal with excavations and in ancient times there were NO cameras, notebooks ...etc.
The objects repeat from level to level and stay at the same position which is very boring.

Agree with you, Sandra. Boring levels and only few mini-games for variety's sake.
