Cons: Slow loading performance.
Magic Encyclopedia sounds intriguing, doesn't it?Those who have already played the game will agree that it has Harry Potter-like adventure story.
Magic Encyclopedia opens when Catherine, the top student of the Academy of Magic, receives a disturbing message in the wings of a paper bird. This strange message contains teleportation symbols and Catherine decides to use the Teleportation Artifact that she inherited from her parents. Having entered the symbols into the artifact, Catherine teleports to Mayan civilization where she learns about the upcoming danger.
Magic Encyclopedia will attract fans of the genre. Though peculiar and charming in its own way, the main concept isn't innovative. In Magic Encyclopedia, you will not have to look for listed items, but also for object pieces scattered around the scenes. Put all the parts of the object back together by finding them, and then they go into your inventory. So you don't do pointless searching as in many other games because all of the items you find will come in handy in this or that location.
Magic Encyclopedia has no timer so you can sit back and relax. As for hints, you usually have a set number of them in each level and they're easy to get. First of all, you can find colored little question signs hidden somewhere in the foliage of the scenery or in the pleats of a curtain. Or you can play additional hidden object games to win extra hints.
The game features facile yet engaging mini-games. Unlike the main scenes, the mini-games have time limits. But don't worry, you will have enough time to complete your puzzle. You will play Tower of Hanoi, match three puzzles, jigsaw and water pipe games. Most impressive was the constellations mini-game. You have to build up Sagittarius or Taurus assembling stars according to the given pattern.
The most distinctive feature of Magic Encyclopedia is its visuals. The story contains beautiful hand-drawn screens, and the locations are bright and attractive. The story moves in a non-way as you can switch between scenes within one level, which adds more diversity to the general game play.
Aside from the slow loads between levels, Magic Encyclopedia proves to be great fun. With impressive presentation of the story, engaging mini-games, perfect visuals and pleasant sounds, Magic Encyclopedia is a game worth exploring!
