Pros: Superb visuals and sound. Atmosphere of dreamy realm. Introduction of Nexus. Challenging puzzles.
Cons: Weak hint system.
Dream Chronicles, which won the hearts of many fans, returns. Actually, it's the third installment of the favorite adventure game released under the subtitle of The Chosen Child.
You continue your journey along the paths and mazes of the dreamy world. Faye, the main hero of all the Dream Chronicles games, has lost her memory and has no idea of who she is or anything about her missing daughter and husband. But she sees dreams, which slowly guide her in recalling her past life.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child is an adventure-like hidden object game with numerous puzzles and challenging tasks. It borrows much of its game play from Dream Chronicles 2 and goes deeper than the prequels.
First, Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child introduces the Nexus, or portals that allow you to travel from one scene to another. That sounds like Myst, doesn’t it? In general, The Dream Chronicles series is similar to Myst. Both have well-polished graphics and transfer players to non-existent realms.
Second, Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child changes its approach to Dream Jewels. Now they unlock the Nexus. You can find some Dream Jewels while you have to make others in later chapters of the game. Dream Pieces also become more inconspicuous, which at first gave the impression they weren't included in the game.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child is more like a quest rather than a hidden object game. You can freely move back and forth between the locations exploring places, solving puzzles, completing tasks and getting clues as to what you should do. Thankfully, no lists of items to collect or something like this. Just use your logic and follow the story.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child puzzles and mini-games are top notch as usual. Creating magical potions, looking for constellations with the help of telescope, piecing together a sewing machine, unscrambling words, playing Simon and sliding games, locating items in the right place and more. Some are easy, some are tough. Wandering in the maze is a hard task that can leave your head spinning. The Simon game combinations moved too fast.
The game only has one weak spot: its hint system. The crystal ball is of little help. It never tells you the exact solution, but instead gives you slight hints. In most cases, "There is nothing it can tell you." Like in the two previous games of the series, the screen sparkles at times hinting the place where you are to pick up or apply something. But that rarely happens. If you really get stuck, you have only yourself to depend on as the game tells you nothing.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child fulfills the series' best traditions and looks elegant. The smooth and vibrant dreamy world presents gorgeous scenes and magically changes locations before your eyes. Enchanting music adds to the atmosphere. There is little new in the interface, but it’s what fans expect and love in Dream Chronicles.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child is a fantastic game that's a must have for all fans of the genre. By the way, it hints the story will continue...
That’s not just a simple hidden object, that’s one of my favorite games. It is very challenging and requires thinking. I recommend Dream Chronicles game to everyone.
