It has an intriguing plot and a charming hero.
You are Anna, a young woman who sets out to work on a strange case. Five rare animals have disappeared from Anna’s family zoo while Uncle Ben was vacationing in China. Why would anyone steal animals? Anna must unravel the zoo mystery in three days, which involves finding out the truth and returning the animals back to the zoo. If not, the federal inspectors will close the zoo.
3 Day: Zoo Mystery successfully mixes innovative features with common hidden object gameplay. The bottom of the screen has a bar with pictures of items you need to find. That’s not unusual. But after you find all the items, they enter your inventory where you use the entire bundle on interactive items in the scene to solve a puzzle, play a mini-game or hand over to someone.
Needless to say, all the characters need your help. The sheriff will ask you for a cup of coffee and doughnuts, while the bartender wants you to take orders in his café and serve food to customers. These tasks will get you something for your investigation.
The search and mini-games are consistent and weave right into the plot. You feel like you're a part of the investigation as you uncover clues and evidence, interact with characters and do more than just look for hidden objects.
And what makes this game more exciting is that there are some items that you can move. Your cursor turns into a hand indicating that you can drag the item around. As the plot develops, you will find a new gadget, Plazmatron, to make your search more challenging. It helps you make big and heavy items disappear for a moment so you can grab an item from behind or under them.
3 Day: Zoo Mystery has an assortment of hidden object tasks. Besides the usual search, you will find differences between two pictures, find items one by one as fast as you can or find several items of the same kind like Chinese vases or pictures of animals. One location impresses with the use of an umbrella. Rain blurs the scene and your umbrella clears off raindrops and makes it possible to see the items. It's a nice change from the hackneyed and overused flashlight.
3 Day: Zoo Mystery overflows with mini-games and puzzles. While some are familiar like pipe, sliding and jigsaw games, others are innovative. You will make photofit pictures, play a word searching mini-game, place items where they belong and solve labyrinth puzzles.
It's frustrating, however, when you get stuck solving a mini-game and find you can't use a hint. Instead, the game offers to let the player skip it and play a hidden object mini-game. This disappoints because the game was exciting and worth playing to the end. Another problem is that the hint is not visible at times or it blends with the background and then disappears.
The gameis generous with hints. The hint refills quickly, so you can use it often. Moreover, even though there are no time limits, the game deducts 10 points from your score when you click fast. By the way, a hint costs 100 points. But those playing for pleasure won't mind.
