It took us over ten months to build Cradle Of Rome 2. The game is almost ready and the dev team is giving the final touch to it. Meanwhile we are glad to share the details of Cradle Of Rome 2 creation.

Cradle Of Rome 2 is most anticipated Awem game. The original Cradle Of Rome set a high bar and we had to do our best to impress the gameís fans and craft the game with most challenging gameplay.


Write your own history

In Cradle of Rome 2 we introduced an intro cut-scene which makes the player feel the maker of the history of the Roman Empire and not just a simple bystander. Since Cradle of Rome 2 is a classic match-3 puzzle, we refused to break the gameplay by short cut-scenes throughout the whole game thus making it more comprehensive.

Letters from Nowhere Developerís Diary. Part I

Primarily, Letters from Nowhere is our third hidden object game after Romance of Rome and Golden Trails: The New Western Rush. So you can see that this genre of games isnít a new territory for Awem.

The idea of creating Letters from Nowhere sprung when our designer watched P.S. I love You, a drama based on novel of the same name by Cecelia Ahern. He thought what if we could use letters as guidance for the player to discover the truth. After the initial concept was approved, we went on infusing captivating story with mysterious letters into a hidden object game.


The first variant of the Main Menu was good but it didnít plunge the player into the gameís mood and theme, so we changed it to more postal and mystic.

The Island: Castaway Developerís Diary. Part I

Planning a new project our main aim was to extend the experience, and what is more to try a new game genre. Awem studio already has an experience in developing arcade games (Star Defender 1-4 series) and match-three games (Cradle Of Rome, Cradle Of Persia). Recently weíve released a new hidden object game Golden Trails: The New Western Rush. Now we are ready to venture into a new genre.

We had an enthusiastic professional team, lots of ambitious ideas and an eager desire to produce something really fresh, never-seen-before.


Before engaging in the development process, every game developer has to make important decisions: fix on game genre or even genres, choose the setting and so on. The idea to create The Island: Castaway originated over a year ago. It was early spring and we were all missing the sun. ďEnough of these gloomy days, letís craft our own piece of earth with sunny beaches, blue ocean and warm breeze! What if our game will be set on a tropical island? Spiced with a moving story and remarkable characters, it could be amazing.Ē This was like a call for action.

Following the tradition developed in our company we organized a Golden Trails party. From the very first minutes we felt Wild West atmosphere. The revived characters from the game met us near the hotel. Now we became true Sunnyvale inhabitants.

Golden Trails: The New Western Rush Concept Art

When making Golden Trails: The New Western Rush, we were trying to choose vivid and the most pleasant to the eye locations, create bright and remarkable characters. Artwork is always one of the most exciting aspects of the game development. Artists are those people who create a big world of the game, fill it with living creatures and set the appropriate atmosphere and mood.

Golden Trails: The New Western Rush is a game with western setting, so itís natural that we had to take into account every little detail in order to create a true Wild West world. Some of the locations underwent considerable changes before they went into the game.

Bank
The first variant of the Bank is a typical western construction. However, it was too simple and flat, and looked like a Holywood decoration. So, we changed the whole construction and made the whole place a bit warmer and lively, filled with soft and welcoming colors.

Mini-games are one of the most exciting features of Golden Trails: The New Western Rush. We did our best to make the investigation real. You question the suspects, look for evidence, and then you piece them together in mini-games. Thus you unlock comics, reproduce the prehistory and advance in the investigation.

When we set about Golden Trails: The New Western Rush project, our principal goal was to create not another hidden object clone, but a full-fledged game. Thatís why we had to think over every detail, weigh the pros and cons, and discuss all the possibilities of adding something new into Golden Trails: The New Western Rush. Every single thing, innovative or not, must find its level in the project and blend in with other game elements.

Storyline, atmosphere, artwork and characters is only a part of game creating process. Gameplay is another huge part of work which should be definitely well thought over and taken care of. In Golden Trails: The New Western Rush we used our plot and storytelling as means of creating immersive gameplay, which greatly contributes to the interactive aspect of the game.
